Disappointing Silverstone for Wrathall
2007 Havoline Ginetta Championship Round 5 - Silverstone International Circuit
Frank headed for the 5th round of the championship with confidence, following his podium finish at the previous round, and just one week after karting success in the oversees round of the Stars of Tomorrow championship at Genk in Belgium.
A frustrating qualifying session saw Frank line up 12th and 11th for the two races. From 12th place on the grid, Frank soon took the immaculately prepared Will Hoy Scholarship car into a top ten position, but with car handling woes he lost touch with the lead group, and after being held up by a backmarker on the last lap, had to settle for an 11th place finish.
After set-up changes were made for the second race, Frank rocketed off the start and after an aggressive opening lap swiftly moved up to 8th place. Mixing it with the leading group, it was evident that Frank had found much more pace with the car, but from lap 5 developed a gear selection problem that led to a broken clutch. Dramatically dropping back through the field, Frank brought the car home in 16th place.
Frank commented: 'This weekend has been extremely challenging for me, jumping straight back into the car after racing the kart takes a while to adapt, as the driving style is completely different. We steadily improved over the weekend, and by the second race the car felt allot faster and I was on course for a good result until I encountered the gearbox problems.'
Frank Wrathall Snr commented: 'Switching from racing the karts to racing the car within a week proved difficult for Frank, and compromised our set up time. It was disappointing that when we finally got the set up right for the second race, we suffered gear selection problems again.'
