Dynojet Team add more podium visits at Oulton Park

The fourth weekend of racing took the G50 Cup Championship to the picturesque venue of Oulton Park, on the 2.2260 mile Island Circuit. Frank and Adam were joined this weekend by guest driver the former Formula One Driver, Martin Donnelly who drove for both Arrows and Lotus in the late 80's and early 90's. The G50 Cup Championship had only two races this weekend.

Qualifying (Saturday)
The dry, sunny conditions in the 20 minute qualifying session helped produce an incident free track period. Once again the single make series produced a closely fought contest with only one second separating the top seven drivers. Frank qualified 3rd, Martin 10th and Adam 12th on the grid.

Frank: 'The session went well. I got as much out of the Dynojet car as I could. I'm not the quickest today, but I'm near the front and have the makings of a good race.'

Adam: 'I'm a little disappointed to qualify 12th. I struggled to put a good lap together. I have a lot to do in the race, but hopefully I can make my way through.'

Martin: 'I'm enjoying racing the G50, with such a professional team looking after me. I took too long to find the limit of the car, and put my fastest lap in on tour 11. It's great to be back at Oulton Park, where I last raced in 1983.'

RACE 1 (Saturday)
A dry race one got underway, with the first quartet of drivers almost four a breast into Old Hall Corner. Carl Breeze emerged as leader closely followed by Chris Dittman and Frank. Frank made a great pass on the outside line at Cascades to take the Dynojet car in to second spot, as the two leaders built up the advantage from the rest of the field. Adam and Martin made good starts as they both made up places on the first lap. Adam made a slight mistake and spun the car on lap four to fall down the order to 18th. Martin fought all the way to keep Chairman's Cup leader, Colin White, at bay. Frank passed the chequered flag in a safe second place, four seconds ahead of Chris Dittman. Martin took 8th, and Adam managed to fight back and climb up the order to take 15th.

Frank: 'I made a good start and managed to get into second by Cascades. I tried to get away with Carl, but didn't quite have the car under me to live with the pace. As the race went on the car came to me, and I started closing the gap until I got held up by a backmarker. In the end I settled for second, and some safe championship points.'

Adam: 'I'm disappointed with the end result. I got a good start and moved up the order, and felt confident to catch the pack ahead. I made a mistake on lap 4 and spun, but managed to make some ground back to finish 12th'

Martin: 'The first lap was hectic, but I managed to settle into a good battle with Colin White and Freddie Hetherington. I really enjoyed the Oulton track again, after the long absence'.

RACE RESULT:1st Carl Breeze 22.04.475
2nd Frank Wrathall +5.215
3rd Chris Dittman +9.127

RACE 2 (Sunday)
The grid formation for the second race of the weekend followed results from race one, with Frank on grid 2 on the outside of the track, Martin on 8 and Adam on grid 15. The pole setter, Carl Breeze kept the inside line and slotted into the lead of yet another side by side hectic start by the front runners. Frank's outside grid position saw him get muscled down to third position behind Carl Breeze and Chris Dittman. Dittman had an unfortunate spin on lap 10, and Frank inherited second place in the Dynojet car where he finished the race. Adam made a good start, but on the fourth tour he went for a manoeuvre on the inside into Cascades but went wide and had an excursion on the grass, leaving the door open for other competitors. He eventually recovered well to take 10th at the finishing line. Martin had a good start slotting into the top six and grabbing the initial advantage in the Chairman's Cup battle with Colin White. Unfortunately for Martin, his race ended on lap three after making contact with Colin White at the hairpin under braking, and his race was over.

Frank: 'I dropped to third at the start of the race and didn't have the pace to live with the leaders. As the race settled down I started catching Dittman who spun and handed me second, to come away from our worst circuit with two seconds is great for the championship. Thanks should go once again to the Dynojet team, and all the supporters who came along to Oulton to cheer me on.'

Adam: 'I was hoping to make good progress through the field and I did make a good start. However, on lap four I went up the inside at Cascades, but went wide, leaving me at the back of the field. I managed to work my way back to 10th so I'm reasonably happy with the end result, but disappointed with the weekend overall. A massive thanks to everyone who watched, supported and helped at Dynojet this weekend.'

Martin: 'I made such a good start and was ready for action, but a late braking situation, and contact with Colin White made that the shortest stock car race ever! I am disappointed after all the effort by the Dynojet team, and not to reward them with a good result. I shall give myself a good talking to on the way home!.'

2nd Frank Wrathall +3.479
3rd Stephen Tyldsley +4.165
