Frank makes his move to second in the Ginetta G50 Championship
Round's nine and ten of the Ginetta G50 Cup Championship headed for Snetterton racing circuit last weekend.
The combined practice and qualifying on Saturday, was held in very wet conditions coupled with standing water on the track. The 30 minute hectic and incident packed session caught quite a few drivers out. The safety car was deployed on two separate occasions. The fast pace was therefore limited to a handful of laps. Frank maintained consistently rapid laps despite the tricky conditions in the Dynojet/Will Hoy Scholarship G50, qualifying 3rd for race one and sealing his first pole position for race two.
Race day brought more favourable dry weather conditions. Frank's anticipation on the rolling start of race one paid off perfectly as he confidently claimed the holeshot into the lead, leaving a battling pack behind him. He maintained the advantage in the early stages of the race. The Dynojet/Will Hoy Scholarship car conceded the lead on lap five as the G50 was struggling for rear end grip. A major accident on the Revett Straight brought the safety car on track. The red flag eventually brought the race to a premature end. Frank crossed the finishing line in 4th.
The pole position in race two was justification for Frank as he once again held the lead. He had gained a 2.2 second advantage by lap three. The 'all to familiar safety car had to be deployed again following an indecent on lap six. The charging pack closed upto Frank during this period. As racing resumed the hot pursuit began, and the lead was conceded. There was a mêlée of cars on Frank's tail. He was taken off track in a lunge which ripped the rear bumper loose. Frank dropped to 7th place. Despite the evident handling and aerodynamic problems due to the free flowing bumper, Frank fought his way back up the field in the Dynojet/Will Hoy Scholarship car to claim a 4th place.
This weekend's result elevates Frank into second place in the overall class standings behind Nigel Moore. He now has 192 points, giving him a nineteen point cushion over Clive Richards in third.
Frank Jnr commented: 'Even though two fourth places isn't a bad result, it's a case of 'what could have been', as I led both races and was especially comfortable in the second race. We have made huge steps forward this weekend and are now challenging for race wins. This is with thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Team. Hopefully I can repay everyone with a win at the next round.'
