Double podium at Knockhill

Round's five and six of the Ginetta G50 Cup Championship headed for Scotland's Knockhill racing circuit last weekend.

The unseasonal weather conditions continued with bitterly cold winds, hail and rain showers.

Knockhill was another new circuit for Frank to learn. Once again the Team had no prior set up data for either the car or the circuit. The 15 minute qualifying session looked like it would be run in dry conditions, but a shower fell whilst the cars were held in Park Ferme, and a quick change to wet tyres was inevitable. Frank's qualifying times were good enough to hold pole position, until the later stages of the session produced a drying track, and changing conditions. Frank put the Dynojet/Will Hoy Scholarship car 4th on the grid for both races of the day.

The rolling start in race one was a hectic battle, but Frank managed to make a place up to third. Unfortunately, the red flag stopped the race, due to a multiple clash further down the field on the approach to Hislops. The re-started race was reduced to 20 minutes duration. Frank made an aggressive start, making progress through the field up to second place, putting a safe distance behind him to eventually finish the race in second, and a first time on the podium this season.

The second race started in dry conditions. Frank made a good start and soon moved up a place to third. A thrilling battle ensued for second place, and once in second position, Frank cleared a safe distance behind him. With twenty minutes of the 30 minute race completed, the rain started falling making conditions extremely difficult. Frank had a small off track excursion after mounting the kerbside surface on the exit of Carlube, which put him back to third. The next lap saw the slippery conditions worsen, but Frank composed himself to re-take second place, which he held on to comfortably until the red flag cut short the race due to the conditions of the track. This was another welcome finish on the podium.

Frank is now lying in third place in the Ginetta G50 Championship with 114 points.

Frank Jnr commented: 'Leading up to this meeting, I had suffered a cold virus, and was feeling particularly tried and drained. Both races were extremely tough, as I was exhausted towards the end. Couple this with having such bad luck so far this season, it was good for me to reward the Team and our sponsors with two podium finishes.'
