March 2008
Brace of sixes for number 66
The first ever Ginetta G50 Cup race at Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, gave an Easter seasonal surprise of hail stones and bitterly cold weather.
The qualifying session, saw Frank put together a string of fast laps. He managed to put the car 3rd on the grid for both opening G50 races.
Michelin technicians inspected the tyres on Frank's Ginetta, after qualifying, and found sidewall cracks, due to frost damage. As a result new tyres were supplied as replacements.
With changeable weather conditions, tyre choice and car set-up was a gamble for the first race. Opting for a full wet set-up, it soon became apparent that Frank was struggling on the drying track, with front-end grip problems hampering progress. After a battling race Frank still managed a solid 6th place to collect valuable points.
The second and last race of the day saw another weather set-up challenge. On this occasion all drivers opted for slick tyres, which meant Frank had to run on the unscrubbed replacement tyres. Although the team chose the right set-up with good grip level, Frank encountered a deferential problem from the very start of the race. With the car extremely challenging to drive, Frank still managed to come home in 6th place.
Frank commented "It has been a difficult day, and I am extremely disappointed with the second race as it was a good opportunity to get a top result. We have had the pace all weekend and the team has worked very hard. It's a shame we couldn't fulfil our potential and get the results we deserved".
